Higher levels of Vitamin D were associated with improved physical functioning and depressive symptoms.

Vitamin D levels may be associated with mental health-particularly depressive symptoms according to the  Annual NUTRITION Meeting.

A study of 4,641 adults who participated in the 2018 NHANES survey to analyze possible connections of low Vitamin D were evaluated with a PHQ-9 questionaire and serum vitamin D levels.

There was a direct correlation between symptoms and low serum Vit. D.  Higher serum Vit. D levels were connected to improved physical and mental functioning.  The people with lower Vit. D levels had lower vitamin D intake from fortified foods,  yogurt, tuna, trout, herring fortified cheeses, eggs, fortified orange juice, cereals,  and milk,  salmon and oh yes, beef liver- good luck.   So you now know what to eat.

Get outside!  Fifteen minutes at noon, can give you what you need for sunshine thus Vitamin D.

This conference was presented at NUTRITION, June 2024.
