Is anyone else noticing this?
I normally love the holidays and as soon as it is December 26th, I believe it's the first day of spring. I get so excited to start thinking of planting, spring cleaning, weeding out all the mess, etc. It is an annual ritual for me and I fend off all the negative comments about how far away the spring months are.
We fill our holidays so full with activities and are endlessly exhausted, but somehow for the sake of others, we keep plugging away, then poof, it is over. It is no surprise that we have a "let down" after the first of January. We have neglected ourselves, lived on pure adrenalin, and put ourselves on the back burner once again.
I think this year is a bit different. We had an election that may or may not have gone the way we hoped. The Bird flu is knocking at our door, a heavy flu season with not just one virus, but four. Don't forget if we drive through the Central Valley there is a Valley Fever, plus horrendous fires in So California. A bit overwhelming. Just too much.
Needless to say, we have to survive all of this. I ask you to go into a self-care mode. Stop, breathe, clear your mind. You and I cannot fix the world. There are days that it seems difficult to even think of ourselves. Give yourself permission to try. When you work on yourself, even a little at a time, you offer more to the world around you and the best part is you lift yourself to a better place.
Start small. Make a list of 3-4 things that might help you feel more content or peaceful. The smallest of ideas, ie sitting outside for 15 minutes to look at your surroundings. Don't reach for your wallet, reach into your mind. The goal is contentment, even if only momentary.
THEN think about spring.
