I have spent the week listening to people I care about in different mindsets.

Of course the Republicans are thrilled, over the moon in fact.  The Democrats are feeling angry, betrayed, fearful and downright distraught.

It was a very contentious election and depending which side you are on, the feelings will not resolve for probably 4 years.  My concern is obvious, the wellness of the side that feels betrayed.  I have met people that are feeling absolutely no hope.

No hope can destroy your body. It can create a deep depression that will affect you, your family and friends. That can't be worth it.  This kind of despair/depression can wreak havoc on your immune system so much that you could be very ill in 4 years, or it could affect your family in a way that despair lingers like a dark cloud in your home.  Your partner and children will feel it, maybe so much that they lose hope and become a mirror of your hopelessness or anger.  I don't believe that is what you want to bring into your home, but those moods are contagious.

The feelings that we are speaking of create inflammation in your body.  You start drinking more, give up or increase your eating patterns so much that you become diabetic or malnourished. You are in despair so you don't exercise or do the things that are good for you. You lose touch with your family or friends.  Possibly an increase in Alzheimers, maybe cancer.  I know you think that is impossible in four years, but it is not.  The worst, of course are suicidal thoughts. If those thoughts do occur, you have to reach out for help with family or friends. There is a National Suicide Hotline in the US, 988, in Mexico +52-800-9111-2000.  The idea is to reach out for help.

How do you plan to get through the next four years?  Some suggestions, look for beauty and pleasures.  Be alive, take on hobbies, exercise, book clubs, church, form groups to discuss the world, not just the US.  Try a gym 1 hour per day, improve your serotonin so it is easier to look toward joy.  Eat well, reach out to improve nonpolitical relationships.  By that I mean leave politics out of these new relationships.

I know you would like to reverse the elections, but we can't.  Think of other things that are positive that you DO have control over.

But please, do not destroy the quality of who you are.
