As I have just finished 2024, I like to reflect on it and my appreciation of a year gone by.

What did I accomplish, what did I give to others, my health, family and friends and my relationship, etc.  It has been a pattern for me since high school and one that is important to me.

We are in San Miguel and the US, definitely different cultures.  But one thing is the same, we are all just people, one heart, two lungs.

There is a beauty here with the people that is not driven by materialism.  For some, it is driven by basic needs, for others it is more fortunate.  The one thing that stands out is the family and their sense of belonging.

The family is the upmost important, family first.  Gatherings are generally family oriented, modest and very loving.  When you walk into a Mexican families' home you feel loved and taken care of.  They may not have a lot to share, but you will get some and know that they are happy to see you.

No fancy cars, just wheels.

Mamas carrying their babies close to their  bodies and talking to them.  Strollers aren't conducive with rock roads, plus they are expensive.  Vendors trying to make a living on the street and as you approach them, they are glad to attend to your needs, with a smile.

Don't take me wrong, this is a prosperous city, but it is prosperous in the people that make up this beautiful region.

So what have I learned?  I learned the value of stepping out of comfort zones and reaching out to learn something new, to not be afraid, to embrace the moment and look to see what is out there.

All that has led me to a life of gratitude.

I am blessed to truly understand that word.

Blessings and Happy New Year.
